KC Startup Launches Site Aimed At Matching Teachers with Classrooms

Combining aspects of Match.com and Monster.com, a KC company has created a website that aims at matching teachers with their ideal teaching environment.  myEDmatch is aimed at compiling a list of job opportunities and interested teachers from across the nation, with the aim of placing individuals in jobs that they will stay in for the long term.  Interestingly, Missouri already has a system designed to match teachers with jobs within the state, MoREAP, but myEDmatch will allow teachers to widen their gaze and find opportunities in other states.

As someone who has worked with a lot of teachers in a lot of different environments, I can attest to how important it is to find a work environment that complements the teacher’s skills and interests.  Unlike many jobs, teachers interact constantly interact with the community they live in which can create not only unique challenges in the classroom but also varying expectations on the teachers out-of-class life.  I have seen many people coming out of college in Kansas City or St. Louis and having a very hard time to the pace and lifestyle in rural Missouri.  Similarly, I have seen teachers used to the close-knit ties of a small community struggle with the less personal feel of large school districts.  I cannot stress how important it is to find a job that fits you both personally and professionally and myEDmatch may be a useful resource.

Hat tip to Dowser for pointing this service out.
